About the event
Beautiful. Strong. Challenging. Marriage and family life are full of rewards and difficulties. They are perhaps the most practical places where the gospel is most needed. Join us for insights from author and theologian Dr. Alan Strange as he teaches us to focus not upon the family, but rather upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
As a family man, Dr. Strange has been married to his dear wife, Kathy, for a beautiful 31.5 years. They have five wonderful adult children (three married, two single) all living within Chicagoland. His daughter, Susie, is expecting a baby girl in early March, and Maggie expects twins in early May.
As a pastor, Dr. Strange served Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Glassboro, New Jersey, for over nine years before teaching at Mid-America Reformed Seminary. Currently, he serves as an associate pastor at New Covenant Community Church (OPC) in Joliet, Illinois, frequently preaching there or speaking in other church and conference settings.
As a churchman, Dr. Strange is very active in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Dr. Strange is the current Moderator of the Presbytery of the Midwest and also serves on a number of committees. For the denomination as a whole, he has served as chairman of the Committee on Creation Views, vice-chairman of the Justification Committee, and the Committee on Updating the Language of the Westminster Standards. He teaches the course for the Ministerial Training Institute of the OPC on the Form of Government and has written extensively on church polity. He also served as the Moderator of the 75th OPC General Assembly (2008), and as general editor of the Trinity Psalter Hymnal (2018).
As an author and theologian, Professor Strange has been a frequent contributor to the OPC denominational magazines New Horizons and Ordained Servant, and to the Mid-America Journal of Theology. He has also written for and serves as a contributing editor to The Confessional Presbyterian. He has recently published The Doctrine of the Spirituality of the Church in the Ecclesiology of Charles Hodge (P&R), The Imputation of the Active Obedience of Christ at the Westminster Assembly (RHB) and What is the OPC? (CCE).
With his wealth of experience and wisdom, Dr. Strange will help us see how the Scriptures equip marriages and families with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
